ALISS Asset Mapping Toolkit

What is Asset Mapping?
Asset Mapping has been central to ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland) from its earliest development. ALISS emerged at a time of growing interest in asset-based approaches in Scotland and was designed as a practical tool to support this way of working (ALISS Report 1).
The ALISS team started collecting information by asking one simple question: “what keeps you well?”. This helped people identify activities, groups, services, support and resources in their communities – their local assets.
ALISS have recently relaunched their Asset Mapping Toolkit. It has a refreshed look and updated content that reflects recent changes on ALISS and encourages people to think about the strengths in their community.
How to use the Asset Mapping Toolkit
The toolkit explains what asset mapping is, why it matters, and how it can support community wellbeing. It also shows how you can use ALISS as part of the process to help record, share, and keep information up to date. The updated version includes a simple, four-step approach, along with practical tools and templates.
You can use the Asset Mapping Toolkit in different ways – from a small discussion to a larger mapping project. If you would like support with your asset mapping session, the ALISS team is happy to help. For further information or questions, please get in touch at hello@aliss.org.
Using the toolkit within your institution
The Asset Mapping Toolkit is a chance for colleges and universities to build a clear picture of the mental health and wellbeing support available to students both on campus and within the local community.
We know some SMHA Project Participants are already doing great work on building referral pathways and external partnerships and doing this mapping exercise is a great opportunity to capture this information, and discover new potential assets.
