Supporting children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis: new framework

The Scottish Government have released a framework covering the principles of what cohesive and effective support for children and young people experiencing a mental health crisis should look like across Scotland.
The document is for practitioners involved in providing crisis support to children and young people (aged 12 to 18, and 26 for care experienced young people), from initial compassionate responses through to specialist services.
It provides an overview of what things should be considered in relation to risk management when supporting a young person experiencing a mental health crisis.
This document may be helpful for staff in colleges, universities and students’ associations, particularly when developing and delivering services for students.
The Framework contains:
- Overview of the Framework and background
- The Role of the Workforce in Supporting Children and Young People Experiencing a Mental Health Crisis
- Risk Management and Mental Health Crisis
- Further resources
- Case studies
The Framework can be downloaded in full below.
Some of the content within the framework may have an emotional impact on the reader. This page contains a list of organisations who can provide mental health support now.
