Report: Colleges’ approach to tackling Gender Based Violence and Harassment
Colleges Scotland and College Development Network recently released the findings of their survey report ‘Colleges’ approach to tackling Gender Based Violence and Harassment’.
Since January 2023, they have worked together to explore how the Scottish college sector addresses gender based violence (GBV) and harassment. This report presents the outcomes of the survey and offers essential recommendations for colleges to strengthen their efforts in preventing and tackling GBV.
Key suggestions for development
The report recommends a strategic, sector-wide approach to tackling gender based violence in Scotland’s colleges, including annual staff training, improved reporting mechanisms, and developing policy on good practice and risk management.
It also calls for increased participation in the EmilyTest Charter, and stronger partnerships with specialist third-party training providers.
As well as the Charter, EmilyTest offer training programmes and resources for staff and students in colleges, universities and students’ associations, which may help those aiming to build upon their GBV work in their Student Mental Health Agreements.
