Finding your community at College or Uni
Mental Health Awareness Week takes place from 12 to 18 May 2025, and this year the theme is ‘Community’ – celebrating the power and importance of community for your mental health.
Getting involved with your students’ association, clubs, or societies can help you make friends, grow your support network, and feel part of a community.
Your students’ association is more than just a hub for events and activities—it’s a space where you can find connection, support, and a sense of belonging during your time at college or university.
Getting involved can help reduce feelings of isolation. Whether you’re joining a society, volunteering, attending a wellbeing workshop, or simply stopping by a drop-in session, being part of your student community can have a positive impact on your overall wellbeing.
Many students’ associations across Scotland offer a variety of online spaces too —from mental health discussion groups on Teams, to virtual coffee chats, or online study clubs. These are great ways to connect with others at your own pace, from wherever you feel most comfortable.
No matter how you choose to take part, finding connection in your student community can be a great way to feel more supported, settled, and understood.
