Managing your money as a student can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re just starting college or university or returning, understanding what financial support is available can make a big difference.
Sources for information
- Provided by the Scottish Government, Student Information Scotland is designed for students, parents and carers. It places all the college and university funding information available into one place, helping new and current students make informed choices.
- They also have dedicated pages on funding your studies at college and funding your studies at university.
- Mygov.scot is further source of information for students studying in Scotland’s colleges and universities. You will find information on student banks accounts, student discounts, student loans and more.
- The Money Advice Scotland website has lots of useful information, including specific information for students.
- Citizens Advice Scotland have a dedicated Money Talk Team, with a virtual assistant available 24/7 to signpost to resources or organise a callback with an adviser.
- As well as all of the above, your college or university may be able to offer help if you are experiencing financial hardship. They can offer financial guidance, and may be able to provide discretionary funds, depending on your situation. These are non-repayable grants.
