Free trauma awareness course
A new course supporting young people affected by trauma has been created by Staf (Scottish Throughcare and Aftercare Forum) and The Open University in Scotland.
The Foundations of Trauma-Informed, Relationship-Based Practice course is a free 4 hour, flexible online resource. It is designed to help people better understand trauma and how strong relationships can support those impacted by trauma.
The course was co-produced with care experienced young people and professionals. It is primarily aimed at those working in education, social care, housing, health, and community settings but is available to all who wish to learn more about trauma informed practice.
We know a lot of colleges, universities and students’ associations in Scotland are doing work on trauma informed practice as part of their Student Mental Health Agreement Project work. This course may be helpful to give participants an understanding of trauma informed principles, building positive relationships and turning knowledge into action.
You can also find more information about trauma informed practice and support for care experienced students on the Think Positive Hub.
