LGBT Charter
The LGBT Charter, delivered by LGBT Youth Scotland, is a programme that enables organisations, including colleges, universities and students’ associations to proactively include LGBTQ+ people in every aspect of their work, supporting their staff and providing high quality service to their students.
Being accredited with LGBT Youth Scotland’s LGBT Charter enables institutions to send a positive message, with confidence, that they are champions of LGBT inclusion where LGBTQ+ staff and students will be safe, supported and included.
The programme has been developed to support institutions to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that they are not only meeting legislative needs but are also as inclusive as they can be.
The LGBT Charter for Education has two intakes per year – January and August. This will allow for improvement plans to reflect the 12-18 month journey of the Charter.
Institutions will be guided through the programme with the help of a dedicated expert Charter Manager and a comprehensive LGBT Charter workbook.
We know that some colleges, universities and students’ associations already take part in the LGBT Charter and some of the work is incorporated within their Student Mental Health Agreements. Take a look at our summary pages for colleges and universities for examples of work already being done by some institutions.
