Coming to College can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it can also provide extra challenges and stress, which may affect your physical and mental wellbeing. If you’re going through a difficult time and are feeling anxious, it’s important to ask for help and support. In addition to the support provided by your Guidance Tutor, you will receive one-to-one emotional support by the Head of Student Services, Depute Head of Student Services and Guidance and Support Advisor. They can help you access services through internal and external support agencies.
What Support is Available?
- Free student counselling
- Weekly mindfulness classes
- Free weekly yoga classes

Students can access support in a number of ways such as making a face-to-face appointment with a member of our Student Services, emailing the team at student.support@slc.ac.uk, calling 01355 807780 and requesting Student Services or requesting a referral through their lecturer. We also provide Report and Support through the Student Portal. This software allows students to complete an online form either anonymously or with contact details so that we can get in touch and provide support directly.
Student Service support is available term time Monday to Friday from 8:45am to 4:30pm. Alongside this, an automated response is sent to all email enquiries advising them of the opening hours for Student Services, as well as signposting to vital community services that may be required out with these times. During holiday periods when the College may be closed then additional messaging is also provided via social media to remind students of important community services.
Staff throughout the College are trained in Mental Health First Aid and ASIST – suicide intervention and prevention.
