Creating Hope Podcast Series: A Resource for Suicide Prevention
Suicide Prevention Scotland (powered by Public Health Scotland) have launched Creating Hope, a four-part podcast series focused on suicide prevention.
Each episode focuses on a key theme and includes voices from people with lived experience, alongside those working in policy, support, and research. The series shares learning, ideas, and practical insights to support suicide prevention work in a range of settings.

- Episode 1: Lived & Living Experience. This episode explores the role of lived and living experience in shaping effective suicide prevention strategies. Contributors share personal experiences to inform practice, policy, and service delivery.
- Episode 2: Data & Intelligence. Accurate and timely data is essential to informing suicide prevention work. This episode outlines how intelligence is gathered and used to develop interventions, monitor trends, and support decision-making.
- Episode 3: Bereavement. The third episode focuses on the impact of suicide-related bereavement and the importance of appropriate postvention support. It examines existing practices and highlights areas for improvement in supporting individuals and communities.
- Episode 4: Children & Young People (this is in two parts). This episode discusses the specific considerations involved in working with children and young people in the context of suicide prevention. Topics include early intervention, safeguarding, and the development of youth-appropriate services.
Creating Hope is designed for anyone working to prevent suicide in Scotland, including staff in colleges, universities and students’ associations. It may also be useful when considering the suicide prevention work within Student Mental Health Agreements.
