National Network of Universities and Colleges dedicated to Suicide Prevention
Suicide Prevention Scotland and The University of Strathclyde are setting up a National Network of colleges and universities dedicated to suicide prevention.
It is being set up in recognition of how difficult and isolating looking at suicide prevention can be within institutions and so they are establishing this network to help support suicide prevention activity.
The Network will be a space for sharing learning and providing peer support across colleagues working in Scotland’s colleges, universities and students’ associations as they develop their suicide prevention activities.
It will facilitate the sharing of national approaches as well feeding into the next stages of the Scottish Government’s Student Mental Health Action Plan. It will consider suicide prevention support for both students and staff who have thoughts of taking their own life or are affected by suicide, as well as the diversity of needs, to get the help they need and feel a sense of hope.
The initial meeting of the network will take place on the 9th December, 2-4pm and will be online. If you or someone from the welfare or student support team in your institution would like to join please contact Tony Kane on tony.kane@strath.ac.uk.
